Steam Summer Sale kicked off yesterday, June 25, and will last up until July 9. In addition to the discounts Valve also introduced the Points Shop. This year Valve introduced a new permanent addition to Steam called the Points Shop. A new Steam rewards program that just launched lets players obtain Steam profile items and backgrounds using points earned by purchasing games. Some of these can turn your profile into an ugly mess. Valve has also launched a new rewards shop that offers players various items they can obtain using points earned from purchasing games on Steam.
For example, you can now buy a chill and serene background of a lake house for your Steam profile. You will be able to use your points to customize your Steam presence or award fellow members of the community. Buy any game, DLC, hardware, application, soundtrack, or in-game item, and get points. Whenever you purchase on Steam, you’ll be given Steam Points based on how much you spend.
You will not receive any points for funding your Steam Wallet or for any Steam Community Market purchases. You can also get Steam Points if someone from the community grants an award to one of your user reviews or other uploaded content such as screenshots, videos, guides, or Workshop items. Points Shop items are yours to keep and have unlimited use, except for the special Summer Golden Profile, which is yours to display for up to 30 days from the time of purchase.
No, all items from the Points Shop are associated with your account and cannot be transferred to others. Now you can redeem your Steam Points for emoticons and profile backgrounds associated with the games you own. The Steam Points program builds upon the existing Steam Trading Cards features and makes them accessible to more players. In addition to collecting and crafting cards, the Points program now offers another, more direct, way to acquire these emoticons and backgrounds.
The Steam Summer Sale trading cards are awarded for purchases made on the Steam store during the sale. You can also earn one card a day by completing your Discovery Queue. Craft those cards to gain levels for the Summer Road Trip Badge. When you refund a game, the points you gained from that purchase will be deducted from your account.
