I really like this camera and consider it pretty much the perfect game camera. It is easy to use. You can use the “quick start” setting or customize the settings. It takes excellent photos. The motion detector and IR flash have good ranges. The design of the case makes it very durable and weather resistant. Battery life is excellent. The “invisible” IR LED flash is indeed invisible and does not spook deer at all, but the flash is not as bright or have as long of range.
I have been using an otherwise identical M “low glow” IR camera at the same time and it does have a brighter, longer distance flash but does seem to spook the deer at night – even though the LEDs are very dim and subtle. The “invisible” flash camera takes adequate night pictures and is best to use in sensitive areas where you want to ensure it won’t spook deer at all. I use the “3 triggered” picture mode to make sure I get enough good photos.
Don’t worry, the camera saves thousands of pictures on even a small SD card. I use very inexpensive 2GB SD cards. The camera can use larger SD cards but it isn’t necessary and the instructions recommend smaller memory cards for faster speed. I find programming the camera to be very easy. I don’t understand the comments about it being hard to program. The directions are good and clear.
I don’t know how using the camera could be any easier considering the features. Use the “quick start” setting if you find it difficult to program. The Moultrie Mi Gen 2 is the perfect game camera if you don’t mind night pictures being slightly dim. I wish the flash was slightly brighter but there is a trade off.
Animals will never know the Moultrie Mi Gen 2 trail camera is there. Top critical review. Reviewed in the United States on October 27, Smart Start is user friendly, but a 3-shot burst doesn’t interest me or provide any advantage for me. Programming options under Custom Start are confusing and set up difficult, at least for me. Pressing directional buttons either sent me all over the map or no where. In my confusion I thought I set up motion detect which would begin the capturing sequence with picture taken after a second time lapse.
What I got was 7, photos over a two day period – one photo every 10 seconds with no motion detect affect. I was finally able set up just motion detect and the results are more reasonable. Go on-line to find a step by step users’ manual, you want find one in the package. It’ll save you time, money, frustration, and battery time especially if you use Custom Start. With user-friendly technology what it is today and with user-friendly devices in demand today this product still has some way to go to be “user-friendly.

Pros : – takes very nice high-resolution pictures during daytime – even the 4MP mode is capable of producing readable license plates at a distance of apx. This is no good for capturing passing traffic, so I had to use the burst-3 mode.
I will update if there are any glaring issues. One person found this helpful. Achieving great results most of the time with this trail camera capturing all kinds of unexpected visitors in our yard at night. It’s a delight to watch all the critters that come around that we never see during daylight. My only negative is that the delay for the video camera to start recording once motion is detected cannot be set to less than 5 seconds.
We notice that we miss so much of the action and often only see the tail of some animal as it walks by since the recorder starts 5 seconds after motion. Immediate start or at least 1 second delay would be preferred. After calling the company and asking about this they said that it cannot be modified.
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. This camera has taken thousands of pictures in the past few months and they are all clear and daytime photos are very bright and crisp. It took a few attempts to get it lined up just right too high then too low to catch the entire food plot.
Great trigger speed, I have it set for three pictures per activation and I get three good pictures. I am very pleased with this camera. We used these to try to find our lost cat. We had dog trackers track him to a neighborhood, and once we knew around where he was, we set these up with familiar items smells in front to lure him out and get eyes on him.
The cameras didn’t catch him, but they did catch rabbits, other animals, and some humans. Night vision is great. I’m sure these would be excellent for other uses as well.
Note: we donated these to the animal rescue team who helped us after our cat was found – they were very appreciative! I received camera, I set the setting to what I wanted the instructions were a little vague, or it just could have been me. I set camera at my hunting site, it took good pictures for about one week, then it apparantly stopped working, I put in a new SD card, turned it on and it would not accept my security code, tried several time no luck.
I call tech support, they were quite helpful, but their suggestions did not work, the tech indicated it was the circuit board and to send it back, which I did, about a week and a half latter I got a what I believe a new one, and it is working just fine.. The images produced have way too much contrast. This is the third trail camera I have owned. The previous ones were Bushnell. This one, while labeled “Gen 2” is not any where near as good.
The images produced have way too much contrast; a fault of the chip. The contrast is so extreme that there is now way to see anything in the shadows on a sunny day. I would not be so critical had I not had experience with the Bushnell cameras. There is not audio when using the video mode, another disappointment. The night lighting is far inferior to the Bushnell cameras.
I recommend looking at other cameras instead of this one. I’ve owned 4 different brands of camera. I have to say the Moultries are the better and the invisible flash cameras are the best. The camo pattern isn’t pretty but it does blend with a tree very well.
